Tussock
Named for long and wild tufts of grass, Tussock is like tousled bundles of pure joy!
-
Spun and dyed in Japan, Tussock is 60% super fine kid mohair and 40% silk, a beautiful blend for absorbing color and reflecting tones.
-
Super fine kid mohair is the highest quality available, made from the first shearing of Angora goats, and it is oh-so soft, lending warmth and body to the yarn. The silk is mulberry silk noil, which comes from the short fibers of the finest silk and, making up 40% of the yarn, adds significant luster, strength, and beauty.
-
Tussock is a fine lace-weight yarn that blooms so beautifully that we prefer to knit it anywhere from a fingering- to a worsted-weight gauge, on US 3-8 needles.
-
Gorgeous as a single strand, this feather-light fiber also plays beautifully in pairs or even trios for your own invention of a watercolor-y marle, or try it alongside other yarns, for plumping up a companion or adding an unexpected touch. Explore our collection of knitting patterns in Tussock for some lovely ideas!
-
Tussock comes in a palette of two dozen gorgeous solid colors and six impressionistic, painterly multi-colors, all inspired by nature’s fruitfulness: juicy, ripe berries, lapping waters, and zippy wildflowers.
-
Be happy to know that the mohair in Tussock, which comes from South Africa, meets the Responsible Mohair Standard, a rigorous certification that recognizes a progressive approach to managing land and a commitment to treating goats ethically and responsibly.
-
Looking for more yarn like this? You’re going to love our other, equally beautiful mohair yarn, Paintbrush Mohair, which is a bulkier weight with a luminous core of Peruvian Pima cotton. For other fine yarns that cover some of the same gauge range, check out our 100% cashmere Nigh Fine and single-ply Line Weight!
-
For so many more yarns you’ll love, shop our other lace-weight yarn, fingering-weight yarn, mohair yarn, and silk yarn, all available only at Purl Soho.
-
NOTE: We used to categorize Tussock as a fingering-weight yarn but now call it a lace weight. The label on the yarn you receive may say either, but rest assured, the yarn itself has not changed and will knit up beautifully on a wide range of needles depending on your desired fabric!
