Wigeon
One hundred percent fine Falkland merino, Wigeon is as hardy as its birthplace but soft and cozy enough for the less rugged among us. Named for the Chiloé Wigeon, a duck indigenous to the area, we celebrate this yarn’s origins and beauty! Hundreds of miles off the tip of South America, the Falkland Islands are endowed with a climate specially suited for sheep, who have long been appreciated for the natural coloring and lovely hand of their wool. In addition, because of the islands’ isolation and climate, Falkland sheep are generally unplagued by diseases and pests and, therefore, also the chemicals often used to treat those things. Wigeon is a classic sportweight with three even plies, giving it excellent stitch definition and a very satisfying resilience. It is milled and dyed in Italy in eighteen solid colors, from soft Gray Mist to punchy Bright Iris. Use your favorites for everything from mittens and hats to blankets and sweaters!
