Arcturus is a lovely, full-bodied worsted. Hand dyed in small batches using botanical dyes and an organic and fair trade base in the Vegan Yarn studio.

Here’s some info on the dye process:

The process of dyeing naturally takes time, but requires no nasty chemicals, and the colours are always soft on the eye. Typically plant-dyeing takes anywhere from 3 days to two weeks, starting with scouring (cleaning), mordanting twice (preparing the fibre to help it accept the dye better) with natural mordants like oak tannin, mayrobalan, and alum. Then finally a ‘tea’ is made with the plant used for dyeing, and the yarn is added for up to a week in a logwood and iron bath. The process of naturally dyeing the dye bath. Its a lot of time and effort, but its worth it, knowing that no harmful chemicals were used in the process.
