This pattern is a revised, updated version of one originally published in 1968. Four strands of yarn, two each of colors A and B, are held together throughout for a super-bulky gauge. The original yarn used was Reynolds Pontresina (Pontrezina?).

From Vogue Knitting Fall 1999:
“Built for comfort and for speed … (in adapting the 1968 original) we added full-fashioning to the raglan sleeves, altered the size and shape of the turtleneck, and loosened up the fit.”
