2 – 4 – 6 - 8, who do we appreciate? Our Local Yarn Stores! This cowl was designed for Main Line Purls for the 2025 Greater Philadelphia Yarn Crawl. It will be available in future in some form.

A classic cowl for changeable weather, the modern colors of the recommended alpaca-blend yarn make for a stylish accessory with lightweight warmth.

Skills Needed / Notes:
Skills needed: Cast on, join and work in the round, knit, purl, knit through the back loop, change needles between rounds, join new color, knit alternating between two balls of yarn, bind off in 1x1 rib pattern, and weave in ends. Skills taught in pattern: jogless join, carrying non-working yarn.

  • Cowl is worked in the round.
  • Instructions currently are both written only. (Charts coming in future paid version.)
  • Estimated level: Adventurous Beginner.

Finished Dimensions
23 in top/24-1/2 in bottom circumference x 9 in height (58.5/62.25 cm x 22.75 cm), after blocking.

Yarn:
Ikigai Fibers “Paka Washi” (Sport/light DK weight; Easy Wash 50% baby alpaca, 50% merino; 135 yd/50g; 3 plies; given gauge 23–25 sts/4” on US 5–7).

3 skeins in three contrasting colors, or in a similar sport/light DK weight yarn:

• Color 1: approx 97 yds
• Color 2: approx 49 yds
• Color 3: approx 54 yds.

Needles and Notions:

  • Circular knitting needles US sizes 5 (3.75 mm) and 4 (3.50 mm), 24” (60 cm) long, or sizes to obtain given gauge.
  • Stitch marker.
  • Tapestry needle.

Gauge:
Over stockinette stitch stripes pattern, knit in the round with size 5 (3.75 mm) circular needle: 22 stitches and 30 rounds = 4 in, after blocking. Please take time to save time and check your gauge.
