This project is perhaps more correctly called “new year, new wrap” because the design is a straightforward rectangle, with no shaping. Each section is 89 stitches wide and 80 rows long. Width is easy to adjust—just add or subtract stitches in multiples of 12. Length is more difficult to adjust if you want the sections to be equal in size. Please join the Ravelry group to share your progress and ask questions. I check the discussion thread daily, and will also respond to Ravelry messages.

The pattern was designed for a DK weight yarn. My sample was knit with ROWAN’S Felted Tweed, and each section used approximately 85% of one ball of yarn. Solid or semi-solid colours work best for this design, in order to show off the different stitch patterns. You can knit the entire project in one colour, or knit each section in a different colour. There are schematics in the instructions to show you how to knit a 2-colour version (which is how I worked my sample) and a 4-colour project, as well.

When you purchase the pattern, you will receive an introductory package that will help you plan your project.

The first clue will be released on February 1, 2026, with subsequent clues following on February 5, February 9, February 14 (to avoid all potential problems related to starting a new section on Friday the Thirteenth!), February 18, February 22, and February 26.

Complete written instructions will be provided, as well as charts.

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, in order to complete this project are:

  • cast on and bind off (I used a double chain—or Chinese Waitress—cast-on and bind-off);
  • knit and purl;
  • slip a stitch purlwise with yarn in front;
  • yo increase;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • ssk decrease;
  • knitting into the back loop (leg) of a stitch.
