23-11 Zig-Zag Handspun
This scarf was knit with yarn sent to me as part of a challenge to have me design with handspun yarns. judycollette dyed the Polwarth fibre in the braid, spun it with a short forward draw, then plied it into a wonderfully bouncy, tonal yarn. The highly textured stitch pattern will accommodate thick and thin sections, or lumps and bumps, if your handspun is not as consistent as this beautiful yarn is. Of course, you can use commercial yarn for your project. The closest equivalent for this particular sample would be a sport weight, or light DK weight, yarn, but the simple design could be knit with yarns of different weights or fibres.
Specific instructions for the sample pictured here are given first in the pattern, followed by a more general set of instructions, or recipe, that you can adapt for using the yarn that you have.
This is a simple project. The skills you will need to know, or learn, are:
- cast on and bind off;
- knit and purl;
- kfb increase;
- ssk (or k2tog) decrease.
