This pretty, all over lace stitch is shown to its full advantage when knit in a gorgeously hand-dyed yarn and aggressively blocked. Blousy sleeves, shaped solid knit shoulder accents, and ribbed edgings finish off this lace cardigan, which will surely become a favorite transitional layer.

The cardigan is knit from the bottom up in one piece. The fronts and back are then split at the underarms and finished separately.

Fronts are continued with neckline shaping. Shoulders are then worked in Stockinette stitch with short rows for a nice fit and easier shaping.

The 3-needle bind off method joins the shoulders. Lace sleeves are picked up and knit straight down to the wrist, gathered just before the ribbed cuff, and then seamed. Lastly, the ribbed collar and front button bands are picked up and knit for a clean finish.

Shown here in a very soft, fingering-weight merino wool. Be sure your yarn choice can also be stretched out and blocked well to bring out the true beauty of the delicate lace.
