This is a knitted bag that uses a “birds” motif adapted from a fragment, now lost, that was formerly in the Iklé textile collections. The original fragment was almost certainly nalbinding, but with a few small changes, it adapts well to knitting.

This is not, strictly speaking, a historical project, since we have no idea what the original fragment was part of. But it’s an intriguing motif and makes an elegant purse.
