Adventurer Sweater
This design is created for the Treehouse Knits Traveling the World advent for 2024, and will not be released until December 2024. The pattern will be exclusive to the advent customers until the advent has finished, then it will be open to the public in Jan 2025. Note: see below for yardage estimates and pattern info.
The Adventurer Sweater is a cute oversized pullover that is knit horizontally rather than top down/bottom up. This pattern was designed for the Treehouse Knits Traveling the World Advent for 2024 as a horizontal fade using the variegated advent (or a fade/stripey version using the tonal or full advents) . It has a crew style neckline with a slipped stitch selvage edging, ribbed cuffs, and a slipped stitch selvage edging on the bottom hem. It is knit flat from the right cuff to left cuff, with a sloped drop shoulder fit. The sweater is designed to fall to a upper hip level. The pattern is intended to be a boxy fit, but I will have options for some bust shaping if desired, as well as adding extra length as needed for the body and sleeves. This is a size inclusive design, written for 11 sizes (34-74” finished bust, in 4” increments) and designed for 6-10” of positive ease.
Sizes offered:
34(38, 42, 46)(50, 54, 58){62, 66, 70, 74} inches
To fit actual bust of:
24-28(28-32, 32-36, 36-40)(40-44 44-48, 48-52){52-56, 56-60, 60-64, 64-68} inches
Note: The sizes reflect the FINISHED bust measurements in inches of the sweater, and listed below the sizes you can see the actual bust range for each size. The sweater is designed for 6-10 inches of positive ease. To determine the size you wish to knit, measure your bust, and add 6-10 inches to find the closest size. If you are in between sizes, size down for a snugger fit, or up for a looser fit. My sample is knit with about 6 inches of positive ease (size 42 on a 36” bust).
Needles recommended:
4.5 mm / US 7
I recommend using circular needles with a 60” cord length.
May need other size needles to meet gauge
Gauge:
19 sts x 28 rows = 4 x 4 inches (stockinette, worked flat, blocked)
Note: Due to the horizontal construction of this sweater, row count will determine your sweater width, and stitch count will determine the length.
Yarn recommended:
Any DK weight yarn to match gauge.
My first sample is knit using Treehouse Knits Dove DK (246 yds/100g) in the colourways Smokeshow (contrast cuff/partial sleeve) and People Person’s Paper People. My second Sample will be knit using the 2024 Traveling the World variegated advent.
A great commercial alternative is Knitpicks Swish DK!

Yardage Recommended:
Recommended body length:
20(20.5, 21, 21.5){22, 22.5, 23}(23.5, 24, 24.5, 25)
Estimated total yardage:
960(1085, 1220, 1360){1500, 1630, 1775}(1915, 2100, 2230, 2390)
Additional yardage per inch:
18(20, 22, 24){26, 28, 30}(32, 34, 36, 38)
Note: This is a rough yardage estimate based on a swatch in Dove DK and some measurements. Allow for extra yardage if choosing to do any length modifications, especially if you know you have a long torso or prefer a longer sweater.
Note: If you want to use fingering held double, or fingering plus a lace, each strand would need the above yardage. If you want to knit in a fade/stripes, you would split the above yardage estimate by the number of colours you are going to use.
