Alcott Shawl
Alcott is a simple shawl worked from the edging up to the neck, so all the hard work is right up front: once you’ve finished the edging, it’s smooth sailing as you decrease your way to the end.
The mercerized perle cotton yarn makes this a perfect weight shawl for late spring into air-conditioned summer, or it can be worked in a fine wool for cooler times.
While gauge is not crucial, using a heavier yarn and/or a larger needle will result in a larger shawl. Likewise, using wool and wet-blocking will also create a larger finished item. As shown in cotton, the finished measurements are approximately 16.25” back length x 38” wingspan.
When working the edging, I do suggest that you mark each repeat of the pattern.
Directions for the edging are both charted and written out.
