About the pattern
Almagest is the name of a second century treatise on astronomy written by Claudius Ptolemy around 150 AD. The work describes the apparent motions of the stars and planetary paths known at the time. I have chosen to name this baby blanket Almagest as I think the stitch pattern resembles a multitude of little stars, spreading across the centre of the blanket. It is also a wonderful thing - to put a child to rest under a blanket of stars.

The centre of the blanket is knit flat from a provisional cast on. Stitches are then picked up all round the centre and the edge is worked round.

Materials

  • 300 g Hverdagsuld from Tusindfryd
  • Circular needle size 5½ mm (60 or 80 cm) for middle, and circular needle size 5 mm (100 cm) for edge
  • A length of leftover yarn for the provisional cast on + a size 5 mm crochet hook for the same

Gauge
Gauge should be measured after washing and blocking as the stitch pattern is fairly stretchy.
