This shawl is fun to work up using my new technique for the main body. New way to put knit and purl rows together! Really - knit a row, purl a row to create this great rib-like fabric!

The shawl is a slightly wider than a semi-circle, with the front edge knit in a nice lace that lays flat.

The lace is worked from the cast on row down to the bottom.

The “feather and fan” or “old shale” lace variation is simple to work, since the “lace” rows are worked every 4th row. . the other rows are simple knit and purl rows.

A circular needle is used, though you will be working back and forth. You will need at least 20 markers and 1 moveable marker or safety pin.

This shawl can be worked in any size yarn and appropriate needle.

Red/orange sample knit in 2 skeins each of Gems Sport (Louet), 330 yds, Roasted Carrots (A) and Berry Wine (B) dyed by allforloveofyarn.com, Needle: US 3 circular (at least 42” long), Gauge: 5 sts/8 rows equals 1 inch after blocking and 5 sts/13rows equals 1 inch before blocking, Finished size: 28” deep by 58” wide.

Gold/green sample knit in 3 skeins each of Shetland(Harrisville Designs), approx. 217 yards per 50 gram skein (1.75 oz.), Straw(A) and Loden(B) Needle: US 4 circular (at least 42” long), Gauge: 5 sts/8 rows equals 1 inch after blocking, Finished size: 27” deep by 60” wide.

Adobe/Garnet sample knit in 3 skeins each of Shetland(Harrisville Designs), approx. 217 yards per 50 gram skein (1.75 oz.) Adobe(A) and Garnet(B) Needle: US 5 circular (at least 42” long), Gauge: 5 sts/7 rows equals 1 inch after blocking, Finished size: 32” deep by 60” wide.
