Antique Flora is where classic sweater knitting meets playful stashbusting color. This seamless top down pullover features a vintage damask inspired motif worked in a soft marled fade, created by holding two strands of fingering weight yarn together for the contrast colorwork.

Each size has its own chart so the motif extends deep onto the yoke and sleeves while still placing the underarm split exactly where it belongs for a great fit.

Using DK for the main color and marled fingering yarns for the contrast makes this an especially satisfying stash project. Pull minis, leftovers, or treasured skeins and blend them into a custom fade that becomes completely your own. The pattern includes row by row fade instructions, a fade planning guide, and video tutorials to walk you through the process.

Design Details

The sweater begins with a 3x1 ribbed collar that can be knit as either a mock turtleneck or a shorter crew depending on how many ribbing rounds you work.

The damask inspired colorwork grows smoothly across the yoke and continues onto the sleeves before transitioning into stockinette. Because the charts are written for each size, the motif stays balanced and proportional and the sleeve separation lands at a comfortable depth, preventing extra fabric at the underarm.

The body and sleeves are finished with classic stockinette, optional shaping, and 3x1 ribbed cuffs and hem.

Pattern Highlights

  • Top down seamless construction
  • Customizable marled colorwork fade
  • Charts written for every size for balanced placement
  • Colorwork that continues onto the sleeves
  • Try on as you go fit

Construction Overview

Antique Flora is worked seamlessly from the top down beginning with the ribbed collar. The stranded colorwork yoke is worked using a DK main color and marled fingering weight contrast yarns.

Sleeves are separated according to the chart so the yoke depth stays consistent across sizes. After the yoke motif is complete, the body continues in stockinette and can include optional waist shaping before finishing with 3x1 ribbing.

Sleeve stitches are then worked in the round, completing the remaining motif before transitioning into stockinette and ribbed cuffs.

Yarn Notes

We knit our samples using a Spun Right Round DK main color paired with two strands of fingering weight yarn held together for the contrast. Marling the contrast colors softens transitions and creates a gentle gradient effect that looks complex while staying very manageable to knit.

This structure also makes Antique Flora very stash friendly. You can use five fade colors, fewer colors, or even repeat favorites depending on what you have available. Speckles, tonals, and solids all blend beautifully once marled together.

Video tutorials and a fade guide are included to help you plan colors and work the fade confidently.
