This rectangular shawl begins by casting on the total number of stitches to create a shawl that is approximately 18” wide. It has 3 different simple texture patterns that along with a slip stitch transition pattern creates a squishy shawl that looks much more complicated than it really is. Over sized needles are used to create an airy fabric but not too lacy so it is a gender neutral design.

Switching between the 3 main texture patterns help avoid knitting fatigue (boredom) for most knitters. Once the length is about 8” shorter than desired total, the shawl is divided into 2 sections which can be completed separately or at the same time depending on the comfort level of the knitter. A few short rows are worked at the end of each section and sections are joined either by seaming, grafting, or 3 needle bind off to create a loop to thread the wide end of the shawl through to help hold everything in place while wearing.

This design is the perfect stash buster! You can let your creative juices flow and you work your way through these simple texture patterns with slip stitch transition. Instead of adjusting stitch counts to accommodate different gauges, you change needle sizes. If you forget, no problem, you’ll have a lovely waffle edged wrap. Over-sized needles create a nice airy fabric without complicated lace stitches. An optional loop is created at the end of your scarf or wrap to make this easy to wear. Don’t want the loop? Just skip separating in the final stitch pattern and bind-off once that section is completed.

The size can be easily adjusted to suit your personal preference. You can use any weight yarn with slightly over-sized needles to create the same look.
The pattern uses suggested numbers for the scarf size and the wrap size.

To make modifications begin by casting on any multiple of 8 + 3 to get the width you prefer and adjust the number of times your repeat pattern rows to get the length you prefer.
