Autumn Bliss
Autumn is my favorite season - crisp, cool air, lovely sweater weather, and the vibrant colors that surround us. Most of all, I love the colorful leaves. From golden yellow to earth green, the autumn reds, oranges, purples, and deep greens make a lovely carpet on which to walk on those beautiful autumn days.
Worked in garter stitch, Autumn Bliss is a side-to-side, asymmetrical, triangular-shaped shawl knit on the bias. It features autumnal-colored stripes and a fringe of beaded i-cords at its three points. The dangling beaded i-cords sparkle in the sunlight, much like colorful leaves in autumn. Colors of the shawl include off-white as the main color with garter stitch stripes of goldenrod, chartreuse, burnt orange, red, dark violet, ivy green, and dark forest green. The Autumn Bliss shawl will challenge the advanced beginning knitter with simple colorwork stripes, managing colors, bias knitting, using simple increases and decreases, and placing beads. It will also appeal to the intermediate and advanced knitters as a meditative project with enough color changes and techniques to keep the knitting interesting. The sample is worked in Blue Sky Fibers Woolstok Light – a 100% wool single-ply yarn in fingering weight which can be knit in varying gauges. Each 50 gram skein of Woolstok Light is 218 yds/200 m. This shawl requires one main color and seven contrasting colors. Yarn requirements: Approx. 845 yds (773 m) total of fingering weight yarn: 365 yds (334 m) of main color (MC); 360 yds (329 m) of contrasting colors (CC) in total. Contrasting colors 1-6 (CC1-CC6) each use 60 yds (55 m); the last contrasting color (CC7) uses 120 yds (110 m).
