Baby Pears is a blanket buddy, a soft toy and security blanket in one, designed as a baby’s first companion.

Baby Pears is knit in the round using basic increases and decreases, with a gentle slip stitch texture on the arms and ears that gives little hands something to explore. He finishes at roughly 12 inches wide spread out and 10 inches tall.

Skill level is comfortable beginner. If you can knit in the round and work simple increases and decreases, you can make Baby Pears.

Yarn needed is approximately 75 grams main color, 50 grams of one contrast, and 25 grams each of two more contrasts, in DK weight.

In early childhood a comfort object like this gives a baby something familiar to hold, which supports self settling and a sense of security as they grow. That developmental role is the heart of every Byrd’s Nest blanket buddy.

Designed by Julie Anderson of The Byrd’s Nest, drawing on a Master’s in early childhood special education and more than 17 years of designing toys made to be loved.
