Barton Park
Treace: “Barton Park was inspired by the Jane Austen novel Sense and Sensibility. In the story, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood, along with their recently widowed mother, find themselves with a largely reduced income and have to leave their home. A cottage on the property of a family relative, Barton Park, was offered to them as a place to live. The Dashwood sisters eventually find love, happiness and security… to the relief of their mother. The reader meanwhile enjoys a peek into life in Great Britain, circa early 1800’s. Knitting of course was a worthy past time for a gently-born young lady, and this shawl would have been just such a project as might have been made by a young lady such as Elinor or Marianne.” Treace’s instructions are beautifully clear; the optional beads are few in number (208), and placed by the wonderful crochet hook method; and the yarn is as exquisite as the design.
