Bau
Two-color garter stitch creates an intriguing textural fabric that’s far simpler to work than it looks, thanks to the clever technique of using circular needles. The stitch pattern offers room for a dynamic play of color and depth. Bau’s graphic blocks are worked using three colors, and the result is a fully reversible fabric. The blanket is worked in three separate panels, end to end, with blocks of different colors alternating along the length of each piece. Once complete, the panels are blocked and seamed, then the blanket is framed with a corded edging—try it in a bold accent red (reminiscent of velveteen bindings), as we’ve done here. Pairing high-contrast colors will enhance the woven look of the stitch pattern as well as the checkerboard motif. Choosing a softer tone-on-tone palette produces a more atmospheric blend with softer transitions.

Construction
The blanket is constructed from three panels worked flat that
are seamed when finished to create an abstracted checkerboard. A corded border is applied after seaming.
