Build a beehive! Made in a Cotton and Jute blend yarn that is crocheted around rope and attached to a wooden base, the sturdy, stable basket is practical and easy to carry thanks to its clever tapered shape. Fill it with blankets or keep it by the sofa to store yarn and haberdashery.

Pattern notes
Basket is worked using amigurumi method. After attaching yarn to base, work Basket rounds in a spiral without closing each round with ss; pm in last st of each round, moving it as up as you go. Structure is achieved by crocheting over cotton clothesline rope, strengthened by additional rounds of surface crochet worked between rounds. When working inc rounds, place rope very slightly towards you to create gently expanding shape on bottom half of Basket, and when working dec rounds, place rope very slightly away from you to create gently tapering shape on top half of Basket. Surface crochet is worked in two stages for ease of reaching lower rounds. Work Stage 1 when second ball Yarn A runs out (around widest point) and Stage 2 after
Basket sides are complete. For a neat finish, taper ends of rope by cutting first/last 3cm at an angle, cover cut ends with PVA glue, flattening and smoothing fibres while glue remains wet. Bind cut end tightly with matching sewing thread to further prevent fraying. Lay cut side of rope on wooden base at beginning and lay cut side on top of prev round at end. Refer to schematic for Top Edge section of Basket/Handles. Daisy motifs are worked separately in two separate yarn weights. French knots and glass beads are stitched to centres before motifs are
stitched to Basket using thread ends from beadwork. For French knot instructions, visit: bit.ly/simys-embroidery-tutorial.
