Pattern Description from A Gathering of Lace: “Keep warm on cool evening wrapped in Cat’s Paws! This elegant, reversible, beaded shrug (a stole with sleeves) is knitted from cuff to cuff. The cuff is beaded in a simple lace rib in which either side works well as the public side - knitter’s choice. The shrug’s body is beaded and worked in an all-over Cat’s Paw (a very old Shetland lace pattern) on garter st.

Skill Level: Intermediate

Finished Measurements: Approximately 25” wide by 55 (58, 60, 63)“ long or desired length. To calculate finished cuff-to-cuff shrug length, multiply unblocked body measurement by 1.36, then add 6” for the cuffs.

Yarn: Knit One, Crochet Too® Richesse et Soie (¾oz/25g; 146yds/133m; 65% cashmere, 35% silk) 8 (9, 9, 10) skeins Black #9900

Needles: Sizes 4 and 6 (3.5 and 4mm) needles in double-pointed (dpn) and regular, or size to obtain gauge

Extras:

  • 900 (1100, 1100, 1200) 6° seed beads
  • Beading needle or floss threaded
  • Stitch markers
  • Optional: Elastic thread

Blocked Gauge:

  • 36 sts to 4”/10cm in Lace Rib pat using size 4 (3.5mm) needles
  • 20 sts to 4”/10cm in Cat’s Paw pat using size 6 (4mm) needles

Notes:

  1. Use a dental floss threaded purchased at a local drugstore to thread yarn through each bead before knitting the skein.
  2. The cuffs are worked in the round, and the body of the shrug is worked flat with 3-st I-Cord selvage on the sides.
