I wish I could tell you a story about visiting the historic Biltmore Estates, being struck by a bolt of inspiration, and sketching, swatching, and designing this in one burst of creative energy. Instead I started out with a vague idea of a geometric design with some texture. I knit and ripped, and reknit, and ripped, and reknit again until I had this pattern, which wasn’t anything like what I started out with, yet was perfect in its own way. It was only after finishing this stole that I saw a photo of Biltmore and recognized the angles in the roofline, and suddenly had a name.

Biltmore is a rectangular stole that is knit in two halves and grafted in the center, for a symmetrical finish. It is written in two sizes, but instructions are given to adjust both the width and length so you can create the perfect sized stole for you. The small size as written requires 200g of sock yarn and the large requires 300g. You could also use lace weight, or even sport weight yarn, but be aware your yardage will vary.

Pattern is fully charted and also contains line by line written directions, including stitch count totals for every row. There is patterning on every row, but the wrong side rows are only knit and purl.
