Blackpitts Lace is a modern industrial-looking textile with circular motifs framed by ribbon-like bands of elongated stitches.
The name is inspired by Blackpitts, an area of medieval tanning pits near the historic Weavers and Tenters textile quarter of Dublin.

A garter stitch base gives the pattern a springy, slightly folded texture and the circular motifs work very well as an extra layer over colorful textiles, allowing pops of color to shine through.

The sample project was left unblocked to keep its texture - the circles and elongated stitches open up to different degrees depending on the weight and stretch of the fabric around them.
Blocking will flatten the texture and open up the motifs.

The sample was knit on 4mm/US6 needles with approximately 137g/480m/520yds of Sesia Talent 100% Merino Wool, colorway 4633.
The yarn has a subtle gradation of slightly mottled shades ranging from dark teal to black, navy and denim blue.
Dimensions: approximately 28cm/11in x 160cm/63in, unblocked.
Gauge: approximately 22 sts and 10 rows = 10cm/4 inches unblocked.

The pattern is fully reversible and is easily customizable in width and length for a more substantial wrap or shawl.
You can also make a cowl by sewing the ends together.

The pdf includes a written pattern, notes & instructions, photos and a link to a video showing the CO. There is no chart.
