Block and Tackle Scarf
This scarf is worked using slipped stitches – an easy technique that creates textured, two-color results while knitting with only one color at a time. The stitch pattern is non-rolling and somewhat reversible. The design will look great in any team colors, or choose more subtle colors for a more sophisticated look. The pattern is easy to memorize making this project portable.
Skills: Cast on, knit, slip stitches purlwise, and bind off.
Materials:
•Aran weight yarn in two colors – 6”X 72” scarf – Approximately 220 yards each color. Tested with Red Heart Super Saver.
•Size 10 US (6mm)
A note about gauge: gauge is not critical for this project. If you don’t get gauge, you may end up with a slightly smaller or larger scarf and your yardage requirements may vary. You can also cast on more stitches in multiples of 4 if using a yarn of lesser thickness.
This pattern is adapted from Barbara Walker’s A Treasury of Knitting Patterns, Schoolhouse Press, 1998 –Two-Stitch Check, pg. 52.
