Bloomfield
At the end of September and early October, the cosmos flowers in my garden are so tall that I can no longer see the center of the blooms, only the underside of the petals are visible. The interesting stitch pattern highlighted in this hat design looks very much like those delicate blooms reaching up to the sky trying to savor the last bits of warmth from the sun before autumn settles in for good.
pattern updated 1/23/19 to include a larger size, notes on blocking, and a stitch tutorial link
