This double-thickness cowl and mittens are inspired by the wing feather designs of the Eastern Bluejay.

You will need four colors of John Arbon Textiles Knit By Numbers fingering weight yarn, which has a put up of 400 m (approx. 440 yards) per 100 g skein. This pattern uses Black, a true White, turquoise, and a Medium Blue.

Worked in the round, the cowl begins with a Crochet Provisional Cast on. The wing pattern is presented only as a chart. The plain medium blue section is worked in a plain large rib. Once complete, the cowl edges are joined and finished with Kitchener Stitch. Links to video tutorials are included for both the Crochet Provisional Cast on and Kitchener Stitch.

This cowl can easily be made larger. To increase the circumference, add stitches in multiples of 10. To make the cowl longer, add height to the plain medium blue sections. Knit By Numbers is a light fingering weight yarn. Using a heavier weight yarn will also result in a larger cowl. If using a heavier yarn, be sure to use a larger needle.
