Bohème Beret is a classic beret inspired by the bohemian Montmartre district in Paris, very popular among artists in the 19th and 20th centuries.

It is knit from the top down in the round, beginning with an i-cord. The finishing is done with a hem sewn invisibly on the wrong side of the work.

To knit the Bohème Beret, we use 2 yarns held together: a fingering weight merino yarn, to give it structure, and a brushed alpaca or mohair yarn, to give it a felted aspect. The chosen needle is considerably thinner than the ones recommended by the yarn manufacturers, in order to create a dense and structured fabric.

(color 400 – natural):
1 skein or 220 yards (200 m).
• Drops Brushed Alpaca Silk
(color 04 – light beige):
2 balls or 220 yards (200 m).
• US 1½ (2.5 mm) 32” (80 cm) or 40” (100 cm) circular knitting needles (or size needed to obtain gauge).
• 17 stitch markers.
• Scissors.
• Tapestry needle.

Tip: you can substitute Brushed Alpaca Silk with silk mohair yarn by any brand you prefer.

A Boina Bohème é uma boina clássica inspirada no bairro boêmio de Montmartre, em Paris, muito frequentado por artistas nos séculos XIX e XX.

Ela é tricotada de modo circular de cima para baixo a partir de um i-cord. O acabamento é feito com uma bainha costurada de modo invisível no avesso da malha.

Para tecer a Boina Bohème, utilizamos dois fios juntos: um fio de lã merino de espessura fingering, para dar a estrutura, e um fio de alpaca escovada ou mohair, para dar o aspecto felpudo. A agulha utilizada é bem mais fina do que a recomendada pelos fabricantes dos fios, para que a malha fique mais firme e estruturada.
