So often we consider only the right side of a knitting project. We drape our shawls and cowls to show off a beautiful texture, hoping the less striking wrong side stays on the wrong side. So often we only show our “right side” to the world around us. We filter our photos and shove the “wrong side” out of the frame. But in every project and every photo there is another side we don’t see, and that side is often deemed less-than or unworthy. Maybe sometimes we can show both sides of our knitting to the world. Maybe we can start appreciating the texture that comes from the “wrong sides” of things.

Both Sides Now is a cowl that plays with the two different sides of mosaic knitting. In addition to showcasing the sleek, geometric side of the mosaic, this cowl also shows off the back side in alternating panels. Knit sideways and grafted at the end, it is a quick and easy to memorize project. It can be made with any 2 contrasting colors in a DK or light worsted weight yarn. The pattern is most fun with a gradient yarn such as Spincycle Dream State, Feederbrook Farm Entropy DK, or similar. The key is a high contrast in the colors you choose.
