I designed the Boxel Socks for 2 reasons: I wanted to make a heavily textured sock, and I didn’t want to do ribbing

I always cop out on my ribbing. I get bored and make it too short, or I leave the project languishing because I really don’t want to to knit another round of plain ol’ 2x2 rib. I’ve always done this, and though I highly respect ribbing and love the finished look and use of the stitch, I’ve accepted me and it are just not mean to be friends

But, as I need that lovely stretchy fabric in my life, I’ve come up with some stitch pattern variations that give me the use of rib, without actually being full on ribbing.

The Boxel Socks are a rib based sock, but with the fun faux cable twists and easy pattern repeat, these rib based socks trick this rib negligent crafter into making a cozy perfect fitting pair of socks.

Yarn/Yardage- 50-100 grams of fingering weight yarn will be enough for any one size. Sample was knit out of Knit Picks Stroll Tonal (75% super-wash merino wool, 25% nylon; 462 yards (422 meters) per 100 grams) in the Mocha Tonal color way.

Gauge- 32 stitches and 56 rows over 4 inches / 10 centimeters in stockinette stitch after blocking.

Needles- 32-40 inches / 80-102 centimeters circular needle in size U.S 2 (2.75mm) for magic loop. Or size needed to obtain gauge.

Sizing- There are 5 sizes in the pattern, and the differing instructions for each are written as 1 (2, 3, 4, 5). Each size will give you a foot circumference measuring 5 (6, 7, 8, 9) inches; 12.5 (15, 18, 20, 23) centimeters. Use the foot charts on page 5 to determine foot length.
