An updated pattern version is available now!

While my son is actually brooding about mastering blockchain, I came up with this new pattern! Telling him, that pattern writing was probably the very first technique of coding ever. There might be in fact knitting-like patterns in code and some coding-like patterns in knitting! So blockchain was the inspiration for naming the Brioche Chain pattern, just that knitters are linked not by using cryptography, but by sharing patterns!

I used neutral colors with low/high contrast, just to show how different it comes out. When I get to the crown decreases I never really have plan, it’s always a big surprise!

The hat has a brim, is very stretchy, slightly slouchy and well-fitting at the same time. It’s important to note that there is no 4-stitch-decrease to be knit. You can do it, knitters!

The hat can be knit in multiple sizes only by changing needle size and gauge; Block the finished cap over a steep-sided bowl or other head-shaped form to smooth the crown.

Altogether 200yd / 180m of DK weight yarn (120 yd / 110m of each color)
Light version shown above was knit with Sweet Georgia Superwash DK, (100% Merino, 256 yards/4.06 ounces, 234m/114g) in colors Birch (MC) and Tumbled Stone (CC).

Dark version shown was knit with Eden Cottage Yarns, Bowland DK (100% Wool, 220 m/ 100g) in colors Ash (MC) and Coal (CC).

Size 4 US / 3,5mm 16” / 40cm circular and dpns or long circular for preferred method of working small circumferences in the round
