Bur Hat and Cowl
This cowl and hat pattern is designed to work up in 3 skeins of plump DK weight yarn, featuring cables and twisted stitch ribbing. The cowl is cast on at the top of the neck, and a long turtleneck is worked, which is worn folded inwards to highlight the cables. As the cowl is worked top-down, it is widened to fit shoulder circumference so that the wearer can choose to have a cozy, bunched up accessory around the neck or have it pulled down over the shoulders for extra warmth. The hat is worked bottom up in ribbing, which the knitter can choose to work as a single or double brim. The double brim is knit together with the cast on edge as the hat is worked, or seamed to the inside of the hat after it is completed. The body of the hat is worked in the same cable and rib pattern as the cowl, and the crown is decreased in pattern.
