Mountains rise like guardians, their rugged peaks kissed by clouds and fog. Encased at their feet like a precious jewel, a glacial lake with turquoise waters reflects their grandeur in perfect stillness. After traversing the evergreen forest and hiking through rocks, the Gaube Lake unveils, surrounded by high peaks, sloping meadows, and glacial rock formations. Playful marmots, colorful waters, and panoramic views make your heart race.
The Calisèr cowl is inspired by this journey and by the Gaube Lake, tucked away in the majestic French Pyrenees. As its main pattern, the cowl features fun and addictive textured lace, reminiscent of high peaks, rocky slopes, and the oval shape of the lake. Bold asymmetrical edgings top it off in style. The name of the Calisèr cowl is a word play on Lac de Gaube (Gaube Lake in French), Vignemale, Mayouret and Paloumères which are some of the mountains surrounding the lake.

For best effect, use a smooth, round yarn with reasonable stitch definition. Yarn weights ranging from Fingering to Worsted would be suitable. As for colorways, I would recommend solid, semi-solid, speckled, or gradient (single skein or gradient set) yarns.

Yarn
Rosy Green Wool Lovely Merino Treat (DK; 100% Merino; 210 meters / 230 yards per 100 grams); 2 skeins; sample uses 120 grams in color 135 Red Beech.

Needles
3.5 mm (US size 4) 80 cm / 32 inches circular needle or size to obtain gauge.

Gauge
23 stitches and 30 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stockinette Stitch, unblocked.
15 stitches and 16 rows = 10 cm / 4 inches in Stitch Pattern C – Lac de Gaube, blocked.
Note: obtaining the gauge given is not crucial but will affect the finished size and the yardage needed.

Notions
Removable stitch markers: 1 in color A (beginning-of-round marker), 11 in color B (optional). Tapestry needle. Blocking pins. Blocking wires (optional).

Size
One; easily customizable.

Final measurements
Circumference (c): 128 cm / 50.5 inches, height (h): 27 cm / 10.5 inches.

Skill level
Basic stitches, increases, single and double decreases. Relatively easy to memorize stitch pattern. Easy patterning on all rounds. Lace patterning on odd rounds only. Elastic BO.
