The Cascade Park Shawl was designed with alternating lace panels and dropped stitch sections to create an engaging knit and easy-to-wear accessory. It is named after Cascade Park (in my hometown, New Castle, PA), a gorgeous park that is over 100 years old. I always enjoyed visiting this park as a child because of the beautiful wooden dance hall, ruins of the former amusement park, benches and pavilions, all against a beautiful landscape of cliffs, waterfalls, and trails. I find it very interesting to see what has (and has not) stood the test of time, as well as evidence of the history and economic booms that defined the area. I hope this shawl will convey some of the old-fashioned elegance of the iconic dance hall.

Knitters will need to knit, purl, work basic lace stitches, and work yarn overs that are dropped in the subsequent row. You can choose to follow either the fully written instructions or charts. The shawl can easily be customized to a different length or width, but please note that this will affect your required yardage significantly. Amano Sami has a beautiful drape and sheen, and virtually any DK-weight yarn in a solid or semi-solid color will showcase this pattern nicely.

Materials

Amano Sami 100% organic Peruvian pima cotton; 164 yd/150 m per 50g skein

1801 Deepest Ocean Blue, 3 skeins (sample used 141 g, approx. 463 yds)

1 US #4 / 3.5 mm circular needle, 16-inch

Notions: tapestry needle for weaving in ends, stitch markers if desired

21 sts / 24 rows** = 4 inches/10 cm in charted lace panel
