Cherry Cowl
I wanted a cowl that had texture and interest, that used only a single ball of yarn, but was also a project that had rhythm and was relatively simple to follow. I wanted to design something that was relatively straight forward, so that I could enjoy the rhythm of the stitches without constantly referring to the pattern, but that also included a little challenge. A large part of my designing a new pattern involves asking ‘what if’. I like texture in my work, and wondered ‘what if’ I moved those bobbles around and linked them later: bunches of cherries appeared. Explore some textured crochet stitches to create a beautiful, functional cowl. I used Hayfield Spirit dk yarn on a 5mm hook. The amount of slouch in the cowl can be easily adjusted by making more or less repeats. I have worked the same pattern with a hand-dyed dk yarn, minus rows 21-26 (the last cherry section), and minus the picot edging, to create a narrower cowl.
