A: Distressed Oatmeal; 1 (1, 1) skein
B: Night Sky; 1 (1, 1) skein
Note: 1 skein of each colour will be sufficient to make both the Chester Basin hat and mittens. Please note that due to the way the Alpaca Tweed yarn is produced, in small batches by The Border Mill, weights of the skeins and yardage do vary.
Gauge: 22 sts & 54 rows = 10 cm / 4” over Corn on the Cob Pattern on 6 mm needles after blocking
Note: The high row count is due to the slip stitch pattern.
Needles: 4.5 mm / US 7 circular needle, 40 cm / 16” length
6 mm / US 10 circular needle, 40 cm / 16” length
4.5 mm / US 7 DPNs for crown shaping
Always use a needle size that will result in the correct gauge after blocking.
Notions: Stitch marker, tapestry needle
Notes: When working Corn on the Cob Pattern, do not break yarn between rounds of yarn B and yarn A – carry them loosely up the inside of the hat.
