Chickpea Baby Blanket
With its rich cable, bobble, and garter-stitch textures, picot edging, and bright golden color, this blanket reminds me of channa masala, a favorite Indian dish. Perhaps you’ll be reminded of tender chickpeas and the warm taste of curry and spice as you make it, too! You might also see a swaddled baby encircled by loving arms in the diamond-shaped motif, which makes this a perfect project for those who are expecting a delivery of another sort. And like many curries, this project yields a satisfyingly complex result from a combination of surprisingly simple techniques - just add yarn and stir!
--In the sample shown, each diamond motif measures about 3” wide x 3 3/4” high, worked in sport-weight yarn on US 4 (3.5 mm) needles; however, gauge is not crucial for this project. Instructions and yardage estimates are given for working the blanket to your desired finished dimensions.
--Pattern includes both row-by-row written AND charted instructions for the cable-and-bobble motif.
--Techniques used: Picot cast-on/cast-off; picots worked at edge; cables; bobbles; simple increasing/decreasing (yo, ssk, k2tog, s2kp).
