In The Lorelais’ First Day at Chilton episode of Gilmore Girls, we are introduced to the Chilton Preparatory School. The scene of Lorelai and Rory looking out the front of Lorelai’s Jeep at the school is iconic. Soon after, the Chilton plaid skirt becomes Rory’s constant uniform.

This cloth draws upon that Chilton plaid for inspiration in the two blue tones and the white outline. Knitted using a woven plaid method, you never have to work two colors in one row. Instead, each row is knitted twice to get the dramatic effect. Cast on and join in the school pride!

120 yards total (109 meters) of worsted weight yarn
55 yards (50 meters) of worsted weight yarn for MC Navy
55 yards (50 meters) of worsted weight yarn for CC Light Blue
10 yards (9 meters) of worsted weight yarn for edge White

Sample knit out of Lily Sugar ’N Cream in the MC Navy, CC Light Blue, and trim in White (120 yards/109 meters; 100% cotton)

Note: Each row of the cloth is worked TWICE…one time with each color. Pay careful attention to the instructions for when to actually TURN the work versus when to sl the sts to the other end of the needle.
