This little asymmetrical shawlette is perfect for showing off that one special skein of fingering weight yarn you’ve been saving in your stash for a rainy day. Created using the highly variegated Lorna’s Laces Limited Edition color for July 2015, “The Brat Pack,” (available for a limited time only at Jimmy Beans Wool) and inspired by Molly Ringwald’s character in The Breakfast Club, this design works well with colorful hand-dyed and hand-painted yarns. It also works well with tonal colors and self-striping yarns.

Its shape and construction allow for many color changes without excessive pooling because you are constantly increasing the number of stitches throughout the piece. Knit from one tip to the opposite edge, this shawl allows you to use every last bit of your yarns yardage without having to worry about running out. When you get close to the end, simply bind off and block. Simple eyelet rows break up the monotony of garter stitch, and give the pattern a little bit of interest without being overly complicated. One edge of the pattern features a simple eyelet picot border that is knit into the pattern. The Claire Shawlette is also easy to customize, so see below for extra instructions for “designing” your own shawl within the basic shape of this design. You can easily adapt this pattern for heavier yarn using a larger needle size. Overall, this fun pattern is as basic as they come, making it easy to create an endless supply of personalized shawls and shawlettes!

Materials:
-1 skein of Lorna’s Laces Shepherd Sock (or at least 1 - 100g hank of sock/fingering weight yarn)
-US 4 - 24” or 32” circular needle (a straight needle can be used, but a circular needle is preferred as your piece grows.
-Tapestry needle for weaving ends
-Blocking supplies

Gauge:
Not crutial, but sample was knit at a gauge of 20 sts & 42 rows (21 garter ridges) = 4” in garter stitch.

64” - Top edge
34” - Picot edge
44” - Bind off edge
