Techniques: For this project you need to be able to pick up stitches.

From the book:

These little bootees are ideal for both very young babies and those just beginning to get to their feet.  Knitted in cashmere, they are soft and gentle on the delicate skin of the baby’s feet, although they can equally well be knitted in merino wool or cotton.  The simple roll edge gives the classic pattern a modern touch.  The techniques required for these bootees are not difficult--you simply need to be able to pick up a few stitches.  They make the perfect gift for a baby shower, and can be added to the sweater and the leggings if you knit the latter without the feet.

A simple first gift for the new baby, these little bootees can be made in a night or even on the way to work. The simple roll edge gives a modern touch to a traditional bootee pattern. Knit them in cashmere or the finest merino wool for the ultimate in comfort for baby’s tiny toes. Alternatively, make them in cotton for a summer arrival.
