Colorful Cartridge Scarf
DETAILS
This scarf is knitted flat from end to end in a simple slip stitch mock rib pattern: the Cartridge Rib. I used five different colors to create a bold yet soft color blocked look. You can follow my lead or choose to knit the scarf in a single color, fewer colors…or even more colors!
MEASUREMENTS & GAUGE
Adjust your width by casting on a multiple of 4 + 3 sts. Adjust your length by knitting more or less!
Unblocked Measurements
I chose not to block this scarf so it retains maximum squish and dimension.
Finished Width: ~ 6-6.5”
Finished Length: 110” – it wraps around the neck twice for added snuggle!
Unblocked Gauge
~ 4-4.5 sts = 1”
Measured over entire width of the scarf after completion.
MATERIALS
Yarn
You can knit this scarf to your desired measurements and gauge. I chose to work with a bulky weight yarn held doubled so it would knit up quickly on larger needles. You’ll need 600-1220 yards of yarn depending on the weight and whether or not you hold a single or double strand of the yarn.
Recommended Yarn: Rozena from Laines du Nord in 5 colors. Light bulky weight yarn in a chainette construction. 122 yards/ball. I used a total of 10 balls or 1,220 yards. TWO balls of each color: 3205 Black, 3010 Berry, 3031 Silver, 3000 Moss, 3012 Brown.
I held the yarn doubled throughout.
Notes on Color Blocking
If you’re following my color block style, then you’ll work approximately 10-11 inches in each color before changing colors. Always change color AFTER completing a wrong side (row 2) of the Cartridge Rib.
I used 10 balls of Laines du Nord Rozena in 5 colors, so each color appears twice in my scarf. I ended up using the entirety of each ball before switching to a new color. The order of my colors are: 3205 Black, 3010 Berry, 3031 Silver, 3000 Moss, 3012 Brown.
