Colorwork Series No. 2
Colorwork Series No. 2 follows from Colorwork Series No. 1 and the Color Explosion Shawl.
Colorwork Series are patterns with specific ways colors are used. Colorwork Series No. 2 is a study in close colors marled together and randomized to have a wabi-sabi effect. It uses seven yarns from one wedge of the colorwheel, which make twenty-one two-stand marls. Each of these twenty-one marls is worked for one pattern repeat two times. This means every color is represented evenly and the yarn is consumed evenly.
The working yardage, meaning your actual knitting, is half the amount of yards listed, meaning it is 1200—1400 yards of work.
The stitch pattern, Nuts and Bolts from Reversible Knitting, is a damask-type pattern, meaning it is made up of areas of stockinette and reverse stockinette. It has the hand of stockinette, but looks lively in marls because of the way marls have vertical directionality on stockinette and horizontal directionality on reverse stockinette.
The yarn in the samples is Ito Kinu, which is a pure silk noil. It looks like a tweed and feels like cotton. The two-strand lightweight fabric has beautiful drape. Ito Kinu comes in many colors so this piece can be made in many variations. if you want a warmer version, you can also substitute any lace yarn of a similar weight.
It is a generous piece and can be easily adapted to different sizes.
