Coral Counterpane
This easy, knitter-friendly pattern was written by Mrs. George (Anne Jane) Cupples and published in 1871 in Edinburgh. I changed the edge stitches to make it easier to sew to other squares but the main pattern is true to the original. The vast majority of the pattern is knit and purl stitches. There are just over 100 rows but this block was so easy to work, I plan to post a miniature version just for fun.
Skills needed: cast on, slip, knit, purl, YO, M1, M1p (see notes), k2tog, p2tog and bind off.
Gauge is not important in this pattern. Any block-able yarn/thread will work. Make a swatch to check gauge and appearance.
52 yards of Wool of the Andes sport yarn will make one block of Coral Counterpane.
52 yards of Lion Brand 24/7 cotton yarn will also make one block of Coral Counterpane.
