The Counterpoise Cardigan is a relaxed dolman sleeve sweater with rows of neatly textured stitches; the fine-gauge wool yarn creates a soft texture that drapes casually. The back is worked in two pieces from the center out, beginning with a provisional cast-on. The fronts are worked separately and seamed at the shoulder and underarm. Stitches are picked up to create the garter-stitch neckband and sleeve cuffs.

Yarn Sugar Bush Yarns Bliss (70% extrafine superwash Merino wool, 20% mulberry silk, 10% cashmere; 105 yd 96 m/1 3/4 oz 50 g): #4010 Autumn Leaves, 14 (16, 17, 18, 19, 20) balls.

Needles Size 3 (3.25 mm): 32” circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions Marker (m); removable m; waste yarn for provisional CO; tapestry needle.

Gauge 23 sts and 35 rows = 4” in Waffle st.

• This cardigan is worked from side to side in four pieces. The right back and right back sleeve piece is worked first, beginning with a provisional cast-on at the center back. Then stitches for the left back and left back sleeve are picked up from the provisional cast-on. The fronts are worked separately and sewn to the back at the shoulder and underarm.

• When picking up and knitting stitches, work 1 1/2 stitches in from edge.

• A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of stitches.
