Da Quaarl Hat
“Da Quaarl Hat”
Da Quaarl Hat is worked in the round from brim to crown. Techniques used are knitting in the round, increasing, decreasing and stranded colour work. The Fair Isle motifs are charted. The rope braiding (Latvian type) is not charted so the yarn colour for each stitch is given immediately after the abbreviation.
The hat is made using 2ply jumper weight 100% Shetland wool (2ply equivalent to 4 ply/fingering weight). The design is knitted in seven colours and colour suggestions are offered from both Jamieson & Smith and Jamieson’s of Shetland so that you can choose your stockist.
The pattern is one size adult but the actual size can be changed by using 0.5mm larger or smaller needle sizes.
Please pay particular attention to the required tension as my gauge tends to be close.
Quaarl is a Shetland dialect word for the crown of your head where the hair grows in a circular pattern. It has been said that people with two quaarls are lucky!
