Daisy Chain Blanket (CROCHET)
Are you looking for a baby gift that is bright and bold, and can be finished in just a few days? The Crochet Daisy Chain Blanket is just the thing! The blanket uses mini-corner-to-corner crochet, which is really easy to learn and gives a satisfyingly speedy finish.
The pattern is written for the smallest size (a good car seat or Moses basket blanket size), if you want to make a larger blanket, you can make multiple panels, seam them and add the border at the end. This blanket isn’t just for babies, and could also be made as a throw or lap blanket. The blanket is crocheted in machine washable, aran weight yarn, making it quick to work up and easy to care for.
This pattern contains both a chart and written instructions for the multi-colour section.
This pattern is written using US terms. Where applicable, UK terms are given in square brackets: US [UK]. Full photo tutorials for both the mini-corner-to-corner crochet technique and border, making this pattern suitable for advanced beginners.
Sizes
One size: 59 cm (23.25 in) square, after blocking. See pattern notes for tips on making a larger blanket.
Tension
10 mini-corner-to-corner squares = 14 cm (5.5 in) worked on a 5.5 mm (US I/9) hook after blocking, or size needed to obtain correct tension.
Yarn and other materials
Aran weight yarn (ideally a plied acrylic, wool or wool/acrylic blend) in each of the following colours:
Main blanket
MC (green): 380 m (415 yds)
CC1 (cream): 170 m (185 yds)
CC2 (yellow): 45 m (50 yds)
Border
MC (green): 75 m (85 yds)
If you want to make a larger blanket, you’ll need the amount of yarn listed for each panel.
Tools
5.5 mm (US I/9) crochet hook
Tapestry needle
Bobbins for holding the different yarn colours during colourwork x 13 (6 wound with MC, 5 wound with CC1, and 2 wound with CC2)
Pattern notes
When weaving in the ends, try to weave the ends into crocheted sections of the same colour to avoid show-through.
This blanket will have a lot of ends that need to be woven in. I recommend weaving the ends in as you go at the end of each crochet session.
The Crochet Daisy Chain Blanket is a single size pattern. If you’d like to make a larger version, you can make several panels and seam them together. Once seamed, add a border as written. The yarn amounts given are for the smallest size of blanket; if you want to make a larger blanket, you’ll need the amount of yarn listed for each panel (e.g. if you make a blanket using four panels, you’ll need to multiple the amounts of yarn given by 4).
I used bobbins to hold the yarns while crocheting the blanket, but you may prefer to use balls of yarn for large sections of colour to minimise ends.
The sample is crocheted in Paintbox Yarns Simply Aran (100% acrylic, 184 m 201 yds per 100 g ball) in Lime Green (228, MC), Champagne White (202, CC1) and Buttercup Yellow (222, CC2).
