About This Design

This blanket was inspired by the popular quilt design of the same name. With its interlocking rings symbolizing marriage, Double Wedding Ring quilts are traditionally made by mothers and grandmothers as a gift to their children on their wedding day or anniversary. Heirlooms in many American households, these blankets are often passed down from generation to generation.

How This Blanket Is Made

The Double Wedding Ring crochet blanket is made up of motifs that are worked in the round. When the motifs are assembled using the join-as-you-go (JAYGO) method, the Double Wedding Ring design emerges across the fabric. Each motif, after the first one, is joined to previous motifs on either one or two sides in the final round. Slip stitches and a special front-post join help align the stitches for a seamless connection. Finally, once all motifs have been joined, a wide border is added to complete the lace-filled almond shapes on the outer edge.

Six sizes are included so that you can make this heirloom blanket for a variety of special occasions. Whatever life event it commemorates, may this blanket bring joy to you and your loved ones for years and years to come.

Customization
Any of the sizes may be made longer (in other words, to make a rectangle instead of a square) by adding motifs. Each motif adds about 8 inches to the length of the blanket. The border instructions will also apply to any size or length. Be sure to buy additional yarn if you plan to add length to your project.

Suggested Yarn Substitutions
Sample was made with medium-weight cotton, but feel free to substitute the medium-weight yarn of your choice. Acrylic and wool would also be good options. Lighter or heavier weight yarns may also be used. A different weight yarn may require a different size hook, as well as more or less yarn than noted. Working with a thinner or thicker yarn may result in different gauge measurements, which will affect the Finished Measurements.
