Knit with colourways inspired by NASA photos of the universe, the design for this cowl combines simple garter ridges with a wide border of ripple stripes. The pattern was released to coincide with my vendor presentation at Fibre Love Affair in February 2026, where I discussed the architecture of knitted ripple stitches.

The techniques you will need to know, or learn, to complete this project are:

  • cast on and bind off;
  • knit and purl;
  • yo increase;
  • k2tog decrease;
  • ssk decrease;
  • cdd double decrease.

Egremont Township’s first council convened in 1850. One priority was the constructions of roads, and a statute of labour “required all men living in the township to work a specified number of days each year helping to build roads. This practice was maintained until Egremont hired its first road superintendent in 1926.”
