Erratics Cowls and Hat
This design is inspired by the geological feature, erratic boulders, which are large rocks carried along by glaciers and deposited far away when the ice melts.
The cowl is worked in the round in reverse stocking stitch with repeating panels in twist stitches and bobbles.
The hat is worked in reverse stocking stitch with one panel in twist stitches and bobbles, and is topped with a pompom.
The pattern can be worked from the chart or written instructions.
For an alternative look, knit the ‘boulders’ in contrast colours.
The cowl instructions provide two versions :
Version 1 - 63cm or 24¾ins in circumference x 24cm or
9½ins high
Version 2 - 126cm or 49½ins in circumference x 15cm or
6ins high
Hat S(M,L)
To fit head circumference 51(56,61)cm
Actual measurements - 46(51,56)cm or 18(20,22)ins in circumference
Cowl
John Arbon Textiles Appledore Aran 2 skeins in Spicy Pippin
If you are using a different yarn to the one suggested, you will need approx 200 (260)m in aran yarn.
Hat
John Arbon Textiles Appledore Aran 1(1,2) skeins in Yeovil Sour
If you are using a different yarn to the one suggested, you will need approx 150(160,175)m in aran yarn.
To add contrast boulders, you will need approx 25m in aran yarn in a contrast shade.
For a contrast pompom the same size as mine, you will need approx 50m of any yarn. I used both colours held together.
