Erwarton Cardigan
The Erwarton Cardigan is part of the Easy Everyday Wearables ebook, a collection of garments and accessories that use simple shaping, basic stitches and easy techniques with tutorials to assist you to create beautiful wardrobe staples.
This shawl-collared slouchy cardigan is worked from side to side to make complicated shaping issues disappear and give a lovely stretchy fabric. It looks far more complicated than it is, with fake side seam rib panels, built in pockets and a shawl collar. It hooks up quickly in this aran weight yarn – you’ll be relaxing in it before you know it!
XS(S, M, L, 1X, 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X)

Finished length from back neck to hem:
(58, 60,
60, 61, 62, 64, 66, 67)cm/22(23, 23.5, 23.5, 24, 24.5,
25, 26, 26.5)in
Sleeve length from shoulder (including turnover
cuff allowance):
58(58, 58, 60, 60, 61, 61, 62, 62)cm/23(23, 23, 23.5, 23.5, 24, 24, 24.5, 24.5)in
Designed to be worn with about 8cm/3in ease at the chest, choose a size that is larger than your chest measurement. As the cardigan is not designed to be closed, choosing a size that relates
to your full back measurement doubled may give more accurate sizing. Because of the modified set in sleeves the upperarm measurement is not crucial for fit as sleeves are very generous at the upperarm.
Materials
12(13, 14, 16, 17, 19, 20, 21, 23) 50g skeins of Stolen Stitches Nua Worsted (Aran/Worsted, 60% merino wool, 20% Yak, 20% Linen 100m/109yd/50g) in Harvest Moon (9905)
6mm hook
Tension
13st and 11 rows in htr in BLO to 10cm/4in using 7mm hook (or size needed to achieve tension).
The sleeves are essentially a large swatch so it’s worth working up to the decrease section on the first sleeve then washing and drying it to check if your tension is correct.
Difficulty Rating
Easy
Skills Needed
Basic crochet stitches, missing stitches, working multiple stitches in the same place.
Construction
Worked sideways from the centre back outwards including collar and pockets. Sleeves are worked seperately sideways from the centre out and attached when finishing.
This pattern is written and charted in standard UK crochet terminology with US translations given in the abbreviations.
