Initially a reluctant watcher of Elementary, I quickly fell in love with Jonny Lee Miller’s and Lucy Liu’s portrayals of Holmes and Watson. One of my favourite scenes is in the season one finale; Holmes shows Watson a brand new species of bee (whose conception should have been impossible), then tells her that he’s named the new species after her. To Elementary fans, Euglassia Watsonia has become synonymous with the wonderful relationship between Holmes and Watson; not one of a perfect genius and a sidekick audience proxy, but one of true friends, partners, and equals.

This design features lots of heavy cabling: the small cable on the outside of each leg is meant to represent Joan (and the multitude of cable berets she wears!), and the honeycomb cables are meant to represent Sherlock (and his love of bees). Together, the cables create a sock pattern perfect for your best friend, partner in crime (or in solving them), or anyone else you might have happened to name a bee after.

So grab your yarn, needles, spaghetti in a mug, and guides to apiculture, and let’s get cabling!

These socks are knit using the magic loop method (although the purchaser could easily adapt it for two circulars or double points).

This pattern has instructions for toe-up socks, as well as chart and written instructions for all sizes.

Judy’s Magic Cast On and Jeny’s Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off are used in this pattern.

The knitter needs to be comfortable with the following techniques: knit, purl, knit through the back loop (ktbl), M1R, M1L, cables, slipping stitches, and wrap and turns (W+T). Instructions for all these techniques are included in the pattern. In addition, we have a video tutorial for the shadow wrap technique of W+T for short rows.

This pattern includes instructions in both written and chart forms for 56 stitch, 64 stitch, and 72 stitch socks.
